Gierke, Nelson, Smith, Tourville, Kast and Oppegaard Visit Victory Lane on Armed Forces Night at Wagamon's Ogilvie Raceway

By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (May 16) – It was another breezy afternoon at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway as racers and fans enjoyed a full night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Race Action. The night was sponsored by Quality Disposal Systems and Ryan Gierke, Dylan Nelson, Jake Smith, Keith Tourville, Christian Kast and Zeke Oppegaard all took home feature wins.

The Hobby Farm RC Speedway WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds kicked off the night’s features with Joey Wagamon and Tate Kostreba on row one. An immediate caution reset the field, but when the green waved, Wagamon claimed the lead. Nick Montanez, Devin Fouquette and Jake Smith moved into top points as laps passed. Smith challenged Montanez for second, but Montanez moved aside Wagamon. Montanez slid up to take the lead as Wagamon dropped back a point. Smith then shot by Montanez for the lead as Montanez, Wagamon and Fouquette ran three-wide for second. Racers covered the entire race surface as laps passed quickly, and when the checkers flew, Jake Smith took the win. Positions two through five were claimed by Devin Fouquette, Nick Monantez, Joey Wagamon and Tate Kostreba.

Keith Tourville sped away when the green waved for the Racers X Performance Parts WISSOTA Street Stocks. Lucas Boyce, Jim Gullikson and Trent Keller were three-wide for second as Keller dropped back. Gullikson snagged second but Boyce kept close as Jeff Ekdahl slid into battle. One caution reset the drivers, but Keith Tourville was unphased as he remained in command until the checkers waved. Jim Gullikson, Jeff Ekdahl, Lucas Boyce and Braedyn Fleck rounded out the top five.

The Crown Vics had a couple cautions early in their feature, but Wayne Nelson took command as they got rolling. With five laps to go, Zeke Oppegaard put pressure on Nelson for the lead with Michael Layne close behind. As they crossed the line, Oppegaard and Layne passed Nelson with three to go. Layne kept pressure on Oppegaard but as the race came to a close, Zeke Oppegaard stretched his lead and took the win. Michael Layne, Abe Langager, Wayne Nelson and Jen Machula wrapped up the top points.

Ryan Gierke and Jeremy Nelson lined up row one for the Dirt Race Central WISSOTA Modifieds feature event. The top two battled the opening lap with Clayton Wagamon and Landon Atkinson battling for third. Gierke secured the lead and Nelson held second while the battle for third remained close. A caution for debris reset the field and Gierke found Wagamon and Nelson on his rear. Gierke sped away when the green dropped while others battled to claim new positions. As the race came to a close, Gierke’s lead was nearly four-seconds as crossed the finish line. Points two through five were claimed by Jeremy Nelson, Clayton Wagamon, Jody Bellefeuille and Landon Atkinson.

The East Central Sports WISSOTA Hornets rolled onto the clay with Nick Ruzich and Tyson DeVente leading the way. The green waved and the hornets sped off with Randy Jacoboski in the lead. Nikota Larson, Christian Kast and Ruzich raced three-wide for second until Larson and Kast took Jacoboski’s doors. They raced three-wide for first, and although Jacoboski held the lead, his competitors did not back down. Kast moved to Jacoboski’s door and they were door to door lap after lap swapping the lead point. With a couple laps to go, contact occurred and the yellow waved, Kast was in command on the restart The top five drivers remained grouped together, and as they came to the checkers, contact amongst the cars triggered a final yellow. Christian Kast brought the drivers back to green a final time, and he held the point to snag the win. Points two through five were settled by Randy Jacoboski, Nathan Penney, Nikota Larson and Nick Ruzich.

The Mora Chevrolet WISSOTA Super Stocks closed out the night’s program with Ryan Kostreba and Dylan Nelson in a battle for first. Dylan Kromschroeder sat comfortably in third while the top two remained door to door. With five laps in the books, Nelson secured and stretched the lead. The remaining laps passed quickly and when the race came to an end, Ryan Kostreba, Dylan Kromschroeder, Denis Czech and Cameron Labelle grabbed points two through five, and Dylan Nelson took his #25 to victory lane.

Next weekend, Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway will host the FYE Motorsports Modified Nationals. The event will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night’s with WISSOTA Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds and Mod Fours in action, along with Super Stocks and Hornets. Racing will begin at 7:00pm each of the three days. We’ll see you at the Big O!
