Night 2 of the MTH MN Modified Nationals Continued Where Friday Left Off, with More Great Race Action

By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (May 24) – Night two of the Minnesota Truck Headquarters MN Mod Nationals presented by FYE Motorsports picked up where Friday left off, with 100 drivers checking in to put on some exciting race action. Jake Smith, Denis Czech, Dustin Holtquist and Tony Jenson took wins while Clayton Wagamon earned his second of the weekend, keeping the Superior Fuel Sweep Bonus in play for the Modifieds.

Joe Neisius and Garrett Paull brought the stacked field of WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to green, and Paull claimed the lead. Jake Smith made his way to second, chased down Paull, and soon took first. The top two drivers began to stretch their lead while Jason VandeKamp and Joey Jensen fought for third. Smith began to put slower drivers down a lap, which put space between him and Paull. As Paull began to lap drivers, VandeKamp caught the #16x and they both weaved their way through traffic. Cars covered the entire race surface, but Jake Smith had no problems as he took the checkers. Remaining top points went to Garrett Paull, Jason VandeKamp, Joey Jensen and Ryan Savoy.

Denis Czech, James Trantina and Joey Jensen were the top three racers when the green dropped for the WISSOTA Super Stock feature. James Trantina and Dexton Koch slid aside Jensen to go three-wide down the back-chute. Contact occurred, but all racers kept moving without missing a beat, and Koch grabbed the second point. Koch chased down the leader, and dropped low to battle, but Czech held the point. They remained door to door for laps with Shane Sabraski and Trantina close behind. The top four drivers raced two-by-two and nose to nose lap after lap and Koch kept pressure on Czech until the checkers waved. Denis Czech crossed the line first to snag the win as Dexton Koch was awarded second with Shane Sabraski, James Trantina and Dylan Nelson in top points.

At the end of lap one of the WISSOTA Modified feature, Jeremy Nelson, Clayton Wagamon and Jack Rivord were the top drivers. Wagamon picked up where he left off the previous night by taking over the lead as the first of three cautions were triggered. Nelson challenged Wagamon as the race resumed, and then, Wagamon, Nelson and Jody Bellefeuille were three-wide. Nelson edged out the point, but Wagamon didn’t let up as he and Nelson raced nose to nose. Wagamon broke free of the competition and drivers began to settle into positions when Wagamon had slower traffic in sight. Following one final caution, Nelson was all over the #14w and gave his all, but Clayton Wagamon prevailed and took his second win of the weekend. Points two through five went to Jeremy Nelson, Jody Bellefeuille, Landon Atkinson and Ryan Gierke respectively.

Tyler Larson, Rowan Tramm and Chad Funt grabbed top points as the WISSOTA Mod Fours went green. With just a handful of laps complete Friday night’s winner, Tyler Larson, suffered a mechanical issue and slowly dropped back in traffic and a caution was triggered. Tramm took over the top point with Dustin Holtquist in second. Laps passed quickly while the Mod Fours circled the Big O, and Holtquist caught the leader. With two laps remaining, Tramm had slower cars in sight and Holtquist on his rear. The final lap was a dash between Tramm and Holtquist, and in the final exit of the final curve, Dustin Holtquist snuck by for the win. Rowan Tramm settled for second with Chad Funt, Robert Holtquist and Thomas Burgard as the top finishers.

The WISSOTA Hornets took the clay and wrapped up the night with Bobie Arnes claiming the early lead. Tony Jenson held second and raced close to Arnes with Randy Jacoboski and Chris McClain in tow. The top drivers remained together with Jenson extra close to Arnes. With four laps to go, Jenson and Arnes were nose to nose with Jenson edging out the lead. The checkers waved and Tony Jenson was victorious, while Bobie Arnes, Randy Jacoboski, Brendan Bockwitz and Chris McClain rounded out the top five.

The final night of the 2025 MTH MN Mod Nationals kicks off Sunday night at 7:00pm.
