2024 Regular Season Wraps Up on Saturday Night at Wagamon's Ogilvie Raceway

By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (August 24) – The 2024 Track Champions were decided Saturday night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway as some great WISSOTA Dirt Track Racing Action occurred. As the night wrapped up, Jim Gullikson, Bobie Arnes, Landyn Randt took feature wins, while The Ironman Shane Sabraski took three.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks kicked off the night’s features with Levi Randt and Thomas Worth door to door for first. Worth nosed out the point, but the top five drivers remained close. Jim Gullikson and Tommy Pogones moved aside Worth, and both pulled ahead. Pogones and Gullikson raced side to side for the lead as they broke away from the field. Laps passed without incident as the checkers flew with Jim Gullikson taking the win. Remaining top points went to Tommy Pogones, Jeff Ekdahl, Levi Randt and Thomas Worth.

Russell Kostreba and Dustin Nelson brought the WISSOTA Super Stocks to green, and Ryan Kostreba joined the fight for first. Russell nosed out the point while Ryan Kostreba, Nelson and Shane Sabraski went three-wide for second. Sabraski took the position and chased down Russell Kostreba as the yellow waved. When the race resumed, Sabraski sped off with the lead and Dave Mass slid into second with Dexton Koch in third. Mass chased down and caught Sabraski for first, and although he gave his all, Shane Sabraski held the point and took the win. Dave Mass, Dexton Koch, Russell Kostreba and Ryan Kostreba rounded out the top points.

A small but strong field of WISSOTA Late Models sped off as the next event began, and Dylan Kromschroeder took the immediate lead. Dave Mass and Steve Laursen kept after Kromschroeder, and as laps passed, Mass moved to Kromschroeder’s door. Contact occurred between the leaders, and although they kept going, Mass moved ahead and took the lead while Josh Zimpel took second and Shane Sabraski claimed third. Mass got a bit loose in the curve which allowed Zimpel to close the gap. The top three drivers remained close as Zimpel jumped the cushion, made contact with the wall and triggered a caution. The field was reset with Mass in command followed by Sabraski and Kromschroeder. Sabraski kept after Mass as the final laps passed, and with two laps to go, Shane Sabraski snagged the lead and took the win. Dave Mass, Jared Zimpel, Dylan Kromschroeder and Steve Laursen closed out the top five points.

Cole Boston and Ben Lewis battled for first as the green waved for the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, and at the end of lap one, Lewis was in command. Landyn Randt moved into second while Boston, Jake Hagemann and Wyatt Boyum battled for third. Boston claimed third and the top three settled in their spots. Cars covered the entire race surface as the leaders began to catch closer cars. Boston dropped low on the track and slid up to steal second from Randt. Boston closed in on Lewis, and with a handful of laps to go, the top two battled for first amongst lapped cars. Boston and Lewis put on a show as they came to the final lap when Boston dropped low and tried to pull another slider for the win. However, Boston found himself aside a lapped car, and Ben Lewis shot ahead and took the checkers. Cole Boston settled for second as Landyn Randt, Ryan Putnam and Wyatt Boyum rounded out the top points.

An immediate caution had the WISSOTA Mod Fours stacked up, however they were sorted and retook the green with Blake Hawker in first. Tyler Larson snagged second as Landyn Randt moved into third. A couple more cautions reset the field and as the green waved, Randt claimed the lead. Larson held second but Hawker kept close in the third point. The Mod Fours finished out their feature with Tyler Larson, Blake Hawker, Rowann Tramm and Josh Madson in points two through five while Landyn Randt took the win.

The WISSOTA Modifieds took the clay for the next feature, and Travis Schulte claimed the early lead with Jack Rivord and Zach Benson in tow. Benson worked Rivord for second and as Benson moved forward, Jody Bellefeuille and Shane Sabraski challenged Rivord. They were three-wide for third as the leader, Schulte, spun in the cure and the yellow waved. Benson assumed the lead on the restart with Sabraski to his rear. Sabraski chased after Benson as the top two broke away from the field. Sabraski’s times were a bit better as he slowly reeled in the #17B. As the laps came to a close, Shane Sabraski made the pass and took the win while Zach Benson, Jody Bellefeuille, Clayton Wagamon and Jeremy Nelson earned top points.

Terry Romick and Randy Jacoboski brought the WISSOTA Hornets to the stand for the final feature of not only the night, but the regular race season. As the green waved, Bobie Arnes moved forward, and they were three-wide for first. Arnes claimed the top point with Jenna Hagemann in second. The Hornets spread out and settled into points with Arnes in a solid lead. Jenna Hagemann, Anthony Jenson, Terry Romick and Randy Jacobski remained in second through fifth the remainder of the race, and Bobie Arnes took the win.

With the final checkers waving, the Season Champions were crowned as: Shane Sabraski in the Late Models, Jody Bellefeuille in the Modifieds, Dexton Koch in the Super Stocks, Cole Boston in the Midwest Modifieds, Tommy Pogones in the Street Stocks, Tyler Larson in the Mod Fours and Jenna Hagemann in the Hornets.

The Ogilvie Raceway will take the month of September off, however we will be back in action in October for the Fall Classic and Topless Nationals. The Fall Classic presented by FYE Motorsports will take place October 4th and 5th featuring all WISSOTA Classes as well as the USRA Late Models on Saturday only. Topless Nationals will occur October 18th and 19 featuring Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Modifieds, Mod Fours, Super Stocks, Hornets and Late Models. Be sure to Mark your calendars for these fun events, before the book is officially closed for the season.
