Mother Nature Cancels Final Regular Season Race Night, 2022 Track Champions Crowned

By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (August 27) – The 2022 Season Championship came to a close at Wagmon’s Ogilvie Raceway on Saturday, however Mother Nature made her own plans. The Structural Building WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series was scheduled to be in attendance as well as the regular six classes when the night of racing was cancelled due to received and incoming rain.

The points battles came to an official close with the cancellation and most battles were separated by less than 20 points, only the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds top drivers were separated by a large margin.

Zach Benson claimed the WISSOTA Midwest Modified Track Championship with a total of 774 points. David Swearingen took second 169 points behind Benson with Travis Schulte, Cole Elton and David Pixley as the top five drivers.

The drivers in finishing in both first and second in the WISSOTA Modifieds and WISSOTA Super Stocks were separated by just 17 points. Clayton Wagamon earned 611 points in his WISSOTA Modified during the season to take the Track Championship. Jody Bellefeuille, Dave Cain, Jeremy Nelson and Eric Lamm claimed positions two through five. In the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Dustin Nelson, Russell Kostreba and Ryan Kostreba grabbed points three through five, while Jeremy Nelson came in second to Dexton Koch who earned 632 points.

Multi-time track champion Justin Pogones finished the season in second with his WISSOTA Street Stock just 16 points behind Jeff Ekdahl who claimed the title with 494 points. Thomas Worth, Kyle Howland and Kurt Becken rounded out the top five points holders.

Tyler Larson earned 612 points over the course of the season and took the Championship in the WISSOTA Mod Four class over Robert Holtquist, Chris McClain, Landyn Randt and Connor Hass.

Over 40 WISSOTA Hornets raced at Ogilvie for regular race nights, but Marcus Ammerman topped the list of drivers with total points of 770. Joseph Wilber finished in second with 752 points, an 18 point difference. Jesse Turnvall took third overall with Alex Aderman and Jamie Ammerman rounding out the top five point holders.

The Wagamon Family, Track Management, employees and volunteers would like to send a sincere thank you to the nearly 230 drivers who made their way through the gates of the Big O for regular race events. With the Late Model Challenge Series, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Super Stocks Tours as well as the Mod Wars which brought many USMTS Modifieds to Ogilvie, nearly 300 drivers passed through the gates during the regular season.

Ogilvie Raceway will be off for the month of September, but will return in October for the FYE Motorsports Fall Classic as well as the Topless Nationals. The FYE Motorsports Fall Classic will be held on October 7th and 8th with practice on Thursday the 6th. Topless Nationals will take place towards the end of the month with practice on October 20th and races on Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd. There are still a handful of opportunities to see great racing at the Big O this season, so be sure to mark your calendar and we will see you in October.
