Kids Treated to Candy and Fun at Meet the Drivers Night, as well as, Fantastic Side by Side Race Action

After a week off, Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway was back in action Saturday for some WISSOTA Dirt Race action. The night was sponsored by William Jerikovsky “No Bull” Real Estate and kids of all ages enjoyed an extended intermission for Meet the Drivers night. The evening’s program was packed with side by side and three wide battles as Braden Brauer, Zach Benson, Clayton Wagamon, Dustin Holtquist, Dexton Koch and Justin Schelitzche went home with hardware.
Kevin Kraemer and Thomas Worth brought the WISSOTA Street Stocks to the track for the night’s first feature, and as the green waved, Justin Pogones made the front row three wide. Pogones snuck ahead with the early lead while five drivers battled close for points behind him. Kolby Kiehl, Kyle Howland and Andrew Hanson battled three wide for second and Howland took the point. Howland chased down Pogones as he drove with slower traffic. Pogones, Howland and a lapped car were three wide in turns three and four. Howland nosed ahead for the lead, but in the next curve he scuffed the wall and Pogones shot back to the top point. Braden Brauer then moved into the second position and chased after the 01 of Pogones. Just as Brauer reached Pogones’ door, the white waved and then the yellow. With one lap to go, the field was reset with Pogones, Brauer and Kiehl in top points. When the green dropped, they were three wide for the lead, and it was Braden Brauer who crossed first to take the win. Kolby Kiehl edged out second with Justin Pogones, Andrew Hanson and Jeff Ekdahl as the top finishers.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds took the clay for the next feature with Cole Elton and Cole Boston on the front row. As the race went green drivers raced close the first lap and exited turn four in a three wide battle for first. Boston emerged in the top point with David Swearingen, Zach Benson, Kennedy Swan and Brandon Mehrwerth side for side for the top five. A quick caution slowed the drivers, but Boston was in command as the race resumed. As the drivers entered turn one, Boston slid up the track which allowed Benson to cruise by on the low groove. Swearingen moved to Boston’s door and they battled for second. A couple laps passed as Swearingen took over second and looked ahead at Benson. Zach Benson however continued to stretch out his lead and took the checkers. Remaining top points went to David Swearingen, Matt Baker, Cole Boston and Brandon Mehrwerth.
JT Johnson, Dave Cain, Jody Bellefeuille and Landon Atkinson all battled close for the top points when the WISSOTA Modified feature went green. Johnson pulled ahead with the lead, but Bellefeuille didn’t let him get away. Cain and Atkinson remained door to door for third as laps passed. Cain, Atkinson and Jeremy Nelson were nearly three wide in the turn as Nelson’s spoiler ripped off and got lodged in the side of Shane Sabraski’s car triggering a caution. As the race resumed, drivers were four wide in the pack as they fought for positions. Johnson remained in command and had a good lead established as Clayton Wagamon came through the traffic. Wagamon took third, then passed Bellefeuille for second and chased down Johnson. Johnson and Wagamon raced along the wall as Wagamon tried a couple grooves to by the 89 of Johnson. With five laps to go, Wagamon dove low in turn one, and slid high on the curves exit to secure the lead point. Clayton Wagamon had started the race in eighth and made his way to the front for the win. JT Johnson, Jody Bellefeuille, Landon Atkinson and Shane Sabraski rounded out top points.
The WISSOTA Mod Fours were next on the order of events, and after a short three car fight for first between Dustin Holtquist, Robert Holtquist and Tyler Larson. Dustin Holtquist drove away with the lead, but Robert Holtquist kept close. Drivers spaced out on the race surface as the laps went by, but as the white was raised, Robert’s car spun up towards the wall. With just a lap to go, Dustin Holtquist brought the drivers back to green and took the win. Other top points went to; Tyler Larson, Tommy Pogones, Jordan Fischer and Connor Hass.
Jamie Ammerman grabbed the early led in the WISSOTA Hornet feature with Alex Aderman in second. Drivers battled for other top points as Mac Johnston and Justin Schelitzche went three wide with Aderman. Schelitzche and Johnston both moved forward and went three wide with Ammerman for the lead. Ammerman fell to third will the other two remained side by side. Schelitzche and Johnston were glued to one another’s doors as they caught a slower driver. Johnston nosed ahead with the lead, but Schelitzche was at his fender. Just as Schelitzche edged out the lead, contact occurred on the front stretch and a caution was triggered. Schelitzche was alone on the restart with Johnston and Paul George on his bumper. Justin Schelitzche retained the lead when the race resumed and held it to take the win. Mac Johnston finished second with Jamie Ammerman, Joseph Wilber and Marcus Ammerman as top finishers.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks capped off the night, and once again, the battle for first was three wide. Brandon Linquist, Jeremy Nelson and Brandon Duellman raced for the top point as Linquist broke away. Duellman and Nelson came back to Linquist’s side as they battled again. This round, Nelson sped away with the lead and Duellman kept second. With five laps scored, the yellow waved and the field was reset. Nelson led the drivers back to green with Dylan Kromschroeder and Duellman in tow. Kromschroeder and Duellman worked Nelson as Kromschroeder sped into the lead. Nelson and Duellman battled for second when Dexton Koch joined in. Koch worked the low groove on the track and slid into the second point. Koch continued to move forward and rode the rear of Kromschroeder. Koch raced to the inside of Kromschroeder, and they were nose to nose. Koch exited turn four and became new leader as one final caution slowed the racers. The green waved and Koch remained in command the final laps to take the win. Jeremy Nelson, Dylan Kromschroeder, Shane Sabraski and Dan Nissalke finished in top points.
Next weekend, the UMSS Traditional and Winged Sprint Cars will make a stop at the Ogilvie Raceway. Micro Sprints will also be on the agenda along with the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Supers Stocks and Hornets. Racing will resume at 6:30pm.
