Inside Line Promotions – OGILVIE, Minn. (June 24, 2019) – Saturday was a successful night for Kaleb Johnson, who scored a top-five result during his first trip to Ogilvie Raceway with the Midwest Power Series.

“I thought our night went really well, especially with the quality of cars there and since it was our first time racing there,” he said. “We got there kind of late, about 45 minutes before hot laps started so we didn’t get much of a chance to look at the track. We definitely learned quite a few things, especially on my part.”

Johnson began the night starting fifth in his heat race.

“I saw our heat race and knew it wouldn’t be easy,” he said. “There were a lot of good cars in it. I didn’t get the greatest start, but I was able to run the bottom pretty well. I passed one car after about three laps. Then I raced side by side with Chris Graff for about the final three laps and was able to squeak by him at the checkered for third, which was enough to get me into the dash.”

Johnson started and finished third in the dash.

“It’s pretty tough to do a whole lot in a four-lap race, especially when the two drivers ahead of you are Thomas Kennedy and Lee Grosz,” he said. “I was satisfied with finishing third.”

Johnson began the feature in third and took the checkered fourth.

“I thought it went really well,” he said. “Before the race I thought that the bottom would be the place to run. But after a few laps I found out that wasn’t the case. I moved to the top and was in third until there was a caution around the halfway point. After the caution, I got a little impatient and tried to slide Grosz for second. That ended up costing me the third spot and I just kind of rode around in fourth the remainder of the race.”

Saturday was the only night of racing for Johnson as a planned night of competing in two classes at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., on Friday fell to rain.

This week brings a busy racing schedule in his 305 sprint car with four races planned in five nights, beginning with the AGCO Jackson Nationals at Jackson Motorplex Thursday through Saturday and concluding at Park Jefferson International Speedway in Jefferson, S.D., on Monday.

“We’re really excited to be racing in the support class for the Jackson Nationals,” he said. “It’s become one of the marquee sprint car events in the nation and it’s always fun to race in front of a huge crowd. It has a great atmosphere and I think we’ll have fun no matter how we do.”
