Jim Gullikson Grabs the Win in Action Packed Street Stock Feature as Part of the DRC Street Stock Tour

By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (June 21) – It was a hot and sweltering Saturday night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway, but the heat didn’t stop 109 drivers from entering the pits. The night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Race Action was sponsored by Coon Rapids Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep along with J&B Manufactured Homes as the DRC WISSOTA Street Stock Tour stopped by the raceway. At the end of the night, Landyn Randt, Jim Gullikson, Tony Jenson scored wins while Shane Sabraski earned three.

The Zoomies Race Engines WISSOTA Super Stocks kicked off the night’s feature events with Max Nelson and Jake Luark on row one. The green waved and Nelson claimed the lead, Luark held second, and Shane Sabraski and Chris Wark battled for third. Sabraski took third, then second and looked ahead at Nelson. Sabraski quickly tracked down Nelson’s #32 and made the pass for first. Drivers spaced out as the race came to a close with Shane Sabraski snagging the win. The remaining top points went to Max Nelson, Chris Wark, Russell Kostreba and Dustin Nelson.

An early caution in the Dirt Race Central WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds feature, but as the drivers were realigned, Landyn Randt was in command. Jason VandeKamp and Wyatt Boyum raced behind Randt as laps quickly passed. The top racers began to lap slower ones as a driver suffered a mechanical problem, and a caution was triggered with a lap to go. Randt led the racers back to green, and as they exited turn two, VandeKamp dropped low and slid high to steal the position. However, Randt repassed him and secured the lead and then the win. Jason VandeKamp finished second with Wyatt Boyum, Jake Smith and Luke Erlandson rounded out the top five.

Shane Sabraski took the lead while Nick Ayotte and Ryan Gierke battled for second in the Racer’s X Performance Parts WISSOTA Modified feature. Gierke secured second while Jody Bellefeuille took over the third point. Cars spaced out on the race surface, and even with one caution, there was no change in the top drivers and Shane Sabraski took his second feature win of the night. Points two through five were awarded to Jody Bellefeuille, Ryan Gierke, Landon Atkinson and Brennan Gave.

A stellar field of 30 WISSOTA Street Stocks signed in for the DRC Street Stock Tour’s stop at Ogilvie, but only 24 made the cut for the feature. Nick Traynor and Lucas Boyce brought the drivers to green and immediately, racers were three and four-wide throughout the field. After a caution reset the pack, the green reappeared and all drivers sped off. Jim Gullikson snuck his way by Kyle Dykhoff for the lead while three-wide battles filled the track. Gullikson and Dykhoff sat comfortably in first and second, while Andrew Hanson, Cody Kummer and Nick Traynor raced three-wide lap after lap for third. Just then, flames burst out from Tommy Pogones’ #04 and the race went red. Pogones was ok as he quickly jumped from his car and the flames were extinguished. As the drivers were reset and race resumed, another red occurred as contact occurred between Cory Dykhoff and Lucas Boyce and Boyce was pinned against the wall. Drivers were sorted again and retook the green with Gullikson, Hanson and Dykhoff three-wide for first. Another couple cautions slowed the racers, but drivers didn’t slow down as three-wide battles continued. Gullikson reclaimed the lead with Kummer keeping close. Gullikson and Kummer raced door to door until Kummer skid through the infield, which allowed Gullikson to speed away. Hanson and Kummer then raced door to door for second until contact occurred on the back-chute. Suddenly, the #20 of Hanson rubbed the wall and was sent into a multiple barrel roll along the surface. The race went red for a third time as emergency and track workers raced over to Hanson. Andrew Hanson was Ok as he climbed out of the car under his own power, and the race was called as completed. Jim Gullikson took the win with Andrew Hanson being awarded second followed by Kyle Dykhoff, Levi Randt and Nick Traynor as the top finishers.

John Kaanta and Adam Ayotte led the KME WISSOTA Late Models to the green, and the top three at the end of lap one was Ayotte, Shane Sabraski and Kaanta. Sabraski rode the rear of Ayotte and Sabraski quickly flew by the #04 for first. Drivers settled into positions and spaced out as Sabraski put drivers down a lap just half way in. Late Models covered the entire race surface and ran a caution free event with Shane Sabraski getting his third and final feature win of the night. Adam Ayotte, John Kaanta, Pat Doar and Tyler Peterson rounded out the top five points.

The East Central Sports WISSOTA Hornets closed out the night’s race program with Tony Jenson and Nathaniel Kinne on row one. Jenson claimed the early lead with Brady Fosso in second and Randy Jacoboski in third. Brendan Bockowtiz, Kinne and Bobie Arnes were nearly three-wide for fourth as Fosso closed the gap with Jenson. Fosso kept after Jenson following him lap after lap, for the top point. Fosso dove low on the track the final lap to try and steal the lead, however Tony Jenson held the point and took the win. Remaining top five points were awarded to Brady Fosso, Bobie Arnes, Nathaniel Kinne and Jada Lore after post-race tech was completed.

Next Saturday will be Hjort Excavating night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway featuring WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Hornets. Racing will resume at 6:30pm.
