133 Drivers Check in to Race Saturday Night at Wagamon's Ogilvie for another Great Night of Race Action

By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (May 3) – An impressive field of drivers checked in Saturday night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway for a night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Race Action. It was another KME Late Model Series night with 22 Late Models visiting the Big O, along with many other first timers. Dave Mass, Shane Sabraski, Ryan Kostreba, Tony Jenson, Jake Smith and Jeff Ekdahl all took home trophies after some exciting feature races.

The Dirt Race Central WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds brought 42 drivers in for the night, and only 24 drivers got to take the feature’s green flag. Jake Smith pulled away as the race began with Jake Hagemann, Landyn Randt and Joey Jensen in a battle for second. Drivers in second, third and fourth remained close as laps went by until Randt secured the point. Smith had slower drivers in sight and soon began to put drivers down a lap. Cars covered the entire race surface, and with just three laps to go, a caution occurred. Smith was in command on the restart with Jensen and Randt on his rear. Jake Smith however led the final laps and took the win with Joey Jensen, Landyn Randt, Wyatt Boyum and David Swearingen as the top finishers.

Before the WISSOTA Street Stocks could complete lap one, the yellow waved as a top driver spun in turn four. The field was reset and then ran caution free with Levi Randt leading the charge. Jeff Ekdahl claimed second and chased after Randt’s #11. Ekdahl was all over Randt as they pulled away from the pack and remained close. Ekdahl worked the low groove and high groove, however the young driver was able to hold the lead. With the final laps in sight, they remained close, and as the race came to a close, Randt clipped a track tire which allowed Jeff Ekdahl to shoot by and snag the win. Remaining top points were awarded to Tommy Pogones, Braedyn Fleck, Rachel Boston and Darren Wolframe.

Skeeter Estey and Shane Sabraski brought the Racer’s X Performance Parts WISSOTA Modifieds to the green and Sabraski sped off with the lead. Estey and Ryan Gierke battled for second while Sabraski stretched his lead. Laps passed and drivers settled into positions until the yellow appeared. Sabraski’s three-second advantage was gone as the drivers were regrouped and the race went back to green. Sabraski remained first, Gierke was second while others were three and nearly four-wide for positions. Gierke didn’t let the #7a get away this time as he remained glued to his door. Gierke dove next to Sabraski with two laps to go, Sabraski pulled away but another caution was triggered. The green, white, checkered restart was a thriller as Sabraski, Gierke, Jeremy Nelson and Landon Atkinson entered the first turn four-wide. Gierke dropped to fourth, but Sabraski, Nelson and Atkinson remained three-wide the final lap and it was a shootout to the finish. Shane Sabraski pulled off the win followed by Jeremy Nelson, Landon Atkinson, Eric Lamm and Travis Schulte in top points.

The East Central Sports WISSOTA Hornets followed the Modifieds, and had just as much of a thriller finish. Travis Bruns and Adam Throener brought the racers to green, but Brendan Bockwitz and Bobie Arnes joined them to make the fight for first four-wide from the start. Arnes pulled away and established a good lead as Tony Jenson moved his way to the second point. Jenson quickly closed the gap with Arnes and with just a few laps to go, the drivers were door to door. As the white was raised, Arnes was in the lead by .003 seconds, but when the checkers flew, the margin of difference was .036 seconds, and Tony Jenson got the exciting win. Bobie Arnes settled for second with Brady Fosso, Randy Jacoboski and Brendan Bockwitz in the top five.

Dave Mass and Don Shaw took their positions on row one as the KME WISSOTA Late Model feature began, and Shaw sped into the lead. Mass held second with Kyle Peterlin in third. Peterlin raced to Mass’ door and kept close to the #2 as the yellow flag flew. Shaw remained in command as the race resumed, with Mass and Peterlin making the battle three-wide. Peterlin backed off as the fit was snug, which allowed Billy Kendall to grab third. Mass kept close to Shaw and was able to edge out the top point as one final caution slowed the drivers. Mass had Kendall and Tyler Peterson chasing him the final laps, but Dave Mass kept his eyes forward and took the win. Remaining top points went to: Tyler Peterson, Billy Kendall, Josh Zimpel and Kyle Peterlin.

The Zoomies Race Engines WISSOTA Super Stocks wrapped up the night’s events with Ryan Kostreba and Travis Scott leading the way. As the drivers wrapped up lap one, Shane Sabraski claimed the top position, but Kostreba was close by and sped past the #7a. The top two drivers began to put others down a lap as a caution occurred. Kostreba pulled away from his competition when the race resumed, and laps passed without issue. Ryan Kostreba again found himself with lapped traffic with a couple laps to go, however he was unphased and took this #17 Super Stock to victory lane. Shane Sabraski settled for second with Dexton Koch, Russell Kostreba and Denis Czech as top finishers.

Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway will be back in action next Saturday for another great Saturday night shootout. Racing will resume at 6:30pm and Late Models will have the night off.
