Jul 25, 2010 - Neske gets his first Super Victory!

By: R.J. Sahlstrom Ogilvie, MN (July 24)
Two hours before race time the track got an extra watering thanks to a brief downpour. The rain ended quickly and the heat became the subject of discussion as the WISSOTA/ Amsoil Dirt Track Racing Series blazed the trail at Ogilvie Raceway. Competition was fierce as no less than 128 race teams registered at the pit gate to battle for the checkers.
The WISSOTA Modified heats were claimed by Eric Martini and Clayton Wagamon both from the front row. Leading the field to the green flag for the A-Feature were Erik Bjorklund and Jason Voigt. Voigt took the lead on lap one and maintained the top spot for the first five laps. passed Voigt for the lead on lap six and fought off all competitors through lap thirteen. Joey Jensen gave his fans something to cheer about as he blasted past Tourville on lap fourteen. Jensen then showed why he is tought to beat as he dominated the rest of the main event to take the victory. Behind his Little Giant sposored ride at the finish line were Dave Cain, Tourville, Wagamon and Eric Martini.
The WISSOTA Super Stock heat race victories went to Chad Halstrom and J.B. Stortz both from row one starts. Halstrom and current WISSOTA National Point Leader Dave Mass lined up on the front row for the A-main. Mass jumped out to the early lead and proved to be the man to beat as he led the first sixteen laps. Current WISSOTA National Rookie Point Leader Devin Neske took a brief lead on lap seventeen only to see it erased by Stortz who charged to the front on lap eighteen. Neske then returned the favor by making a successful bid for the lead on the very next circuit. He held off the charging field for the last two laps to insure his first victory ever in a Super Stock for the Ray's Auto Body racing team. He was followed by Mass, Jeremy Snow, Stortz and Dustin Nelson.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modified heat winners were Bud Martini, Clayton Wagamon, Alan Bohlman and Charlie Shiek. A superb field of 39 Midwest Modifieds required two B-Features to determine the final entrants for the battle royal. Joining the starting grid for the A-Feature were Corey Eystad, J.T. Johnson, Jeremy Nelson and Corey Koenig. On the front row for the main event were Kevin Kraemer and Shiek. Dave Mass grabbed the early lead and held it for the first six laps. Martini blasted by some very tough competition taking the lead on lap seven and never looked back. He completed a clean sweep for the night in his Fastrack Chassis ride sponsored by Plato's Closet. Chasing him at the checkers were Clayton Wagamon, Ryan Bowers, Justin Oestreich, who started in row six and Dave Mass.
The WISSOTA Street Stock heat races were won by Kevin Schmidt and James Backer both from row two. Becker and Dan McCain led the Feature grid to the green. Becker claimed the front position on lap one and held it for the first seven laps. Scott Walker took a brief lead on lap eight only to surrender it to Schmidt who led lap nine. Schmidt, who srarted in row four, saw his initial bid for the trophy disappear as Becker reclaimed the lead for the next two rounds. Schmidt worked some magic as he placed the final winning bid for the trophy by leading the last nine laps. He swept his competitors in his Frederick Race Car entry sponsored by Guy's Towing. He was followed by Justin Pogones, Walker, Becker and Rod DeBernardeaux.
The WISSOTA Mod-four heat races were won by Josh Abrahamson form row one and current WISSOTA National Point leader Rob VanMil from the back. Lined up on the front row for the Feature were Dustin Zieske and Tom Sabraski. Sabraski paced the field for the first two laps until Corry VanMil commanded charge of the race for laps three through fourteen. On lap fifteen Abrahamson took the lead by successfully passing everyone in the field after being sent to the back of the pack for drawing a caution flag. He would lead the race until turn four on the final circuit when R. VanMil executed a fantastic move snatching the trophy out of Abrahamson's grasp. They were chased by C. VanMil, Zieske and Sabraski.
The Hornet events became more interesting than usual as the apparent winners in both races were disqualified in a post-race inspection. As a result, the wins were awarded to the Busitsky brothers, Quentin and Quain.
Make plans now to attend the next Saturday night of racing on July 31st with a 6:30 pm start sponsored by First National Bank of Milaca.
