By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (May 13) – Saturday night featured a Mother’s Day special for everyone at the Ogilvie Raceway. Mom’s received complimentary wine, flowers and were entered for a ride in the Big O two-seater while enjoying some great WISSOTA PolyDome Dirt Track Race Series action. At the end of the night, Kyle Laney, Eric Lamm, Denis Czech, Dave Cain, Joe Martin and Robert Holtquist took home the hardware.

Quentin Bustizky and Russell Kostreba battled for the lead as the WISSOTA Street Stocks began the night’s features. Busitzky nosed ahead but Kyle Dykhoff dove to his side to fight for first. As they battled, Jim Gullikson moved to their doors and went three wide for the lead. Gullikson moved into the lead point while Dykhoff grabbed second while Kyle Laney, Kevin Schmidt ran door to door for third. The first yellow waved to slow the drivers, but Gullikson remained in control on the restart. Gullikson’s car howvever slowed up out of four and Dykhoff got under him. Other drivers were collected and the red appeared to allow drivers to be sorted safely. On the restart, Kyle Laney assumed the lead as with Schmidt and Kostreba in tow. Laney took first and Kostreba snagged while Justin Pogones moved into the third point. Schmidt came back to Pogones’s door and they rode Kostreba’s rear. While they battled, Schmidt and Kostreba rubbed which allowed Pogones to fly by for second. Pogones chased after Laney, but ran out of time as Laney grabbed the checkers. Laney earned his first feature win at the Big O with Pogones, Schmidt, Howland and Davey Kruchten as the top five.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds took the track with Brandon Hines and Ashley Mehrwerth on the front row. Hines drove off and Cole Chernosky and Ashley and Brandon Mehrwerth battled three wide for second. Chernosky stole the point and Eric Lamm moved into third as the yellow appeared. Hines was in charge on the restart but Eric Lamm moved low and past Hines. Lamm claimed the lead point as Chernosky challenged Hines for second. Andy Miskowic moved into battle and flew past Chernosky. Lamm had a large lead accumulated while Shane Howell took fourth and moved to Miskowic’s door. Howell and Miskowic went took Hines’ sides and they battled for second. Miskowic earned the point and Howell took third. Lamm was over six seconds ahead of his competitors as he encountered slower cars. Lamm began to lap and soon took the checkers with Miskowic, Howell, Hines and Skeeter Estey in top points.

The WISSOTA Mod Fours sped off with David Fortier and Ryan Lind on the first line. Lind took a quick lead but the yellow soon followed. After a couple restarts, Lind remained in command with Robert Holtquist and Dean Larson in tow. Holtquist caught Lind and snuck by on the low groove to take the lead and Larson moved into battle Lind. Both Dean and Tyler Larson drove by Lind for second and third while D. Larson chased after Holtquist. D. Larson closed the gap with Holtquist but ran out of laps as Holtquist took the checkers. Dean Larson, Tyler Larson, Trever Roediger and Fortier took top points.

Denis Czech and Levi Voss brought the WISSOTA Super Stocks to green and drivers were nearly four wide as they went through the first turns. Czech moved into the lead point but soon the yellow flew. Czech was alone on the restart with Dave Mass and Dexton Koch on his bumper. Czech pulled away when the green waved while Mass and Koch battled for second. Mass worked the low groove, Koch rode the wall and they fought for second. Koch was faster out of the turn to keep the point but Mass dove low the next round. Koch retained the point but Mass kept the #78k and soon moved past him for second. Just as Mass took the point, the yellow waved and the drivers were showered. Czech was still in command with Mass and Koch to his rear. The top four drivers didn’t move positions but Dustin Nelson and Dan Gullikson fought for fifth. Nelson and Gullikson swapped back and forth for the point but Gullikson secured it before the race concluded. Czech grabbed the checkers for the first time this season with Mass, Koch, Dylan Kromschroeder and Gullikson as the top drivers.

Clayton Wagamon grabbed the lead when the WISSOTA Modifieds went green, while Dave Cain, Don Eischens, Jeremy Nelson (06) and Tim Patchen went four wide for second. Cain broke free from battle and rode low on the track to Wagamon’s door. Cain snuck by but Wagamon kept close. The top two drivers had a good lead over Eischens in third when Jody Bellefeuille moved into challenge Eischens. The yellow appeared and slowed the drivers, but Cain remained in the lead when the green reappeared. Wagamon raced against the wall and ran parallel with Cain in the turns. Cain pulled away from Wagamon but the yellow flickered back on. Drivers were three and four wide around the track as the race resumed with Cain in the lead. Wagamon raced his favorite groove along the wall in second while Eischens and Bellefeuille fought for third. Bellefeuille edged out the point while Wagamon closed in on Cain. The white flag waved and as the top drivers raced down the back chute, Wagamon shot out of turn two and to Cain’s side. They rounded the final turn and Cain crossed the line first. Cain rolled his Peterson Heating and Cooling #2c into victory lane with Wagamon, Bellefeuille, Eischens and Jeremy Nelson (4) as top finishers.

John Willard and Chris McClain brought the final race out for the night and it belonged to the WISSOTA Hornets. Seth Lindberg took the lead at the end of lap one and Joe Martin moved into second. Martin moved next to Lindberg for the lead and nosed ahead with the point. The yellow appeared and Martin was alone on the restart. Erik Cleasby nosed ahead into second and Lindberg held third. Cleasby closed in on Martin for the lead as the top two drivers drove away. Joseph Wilber moved into fourth and slid by Lindberg for third with few laps to go. Cleasby continued to chase after Martin, but Martin kept his lead and took the win. Cleasby, Wilber, Lindberg and Zack Cleasby took the top points.
